The MIA Library features specialist books, art reference books and catalogues dedicated to Islamic art.

Library Hours

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: 9am–7pm
Wednesday: Closed
Friday: 1:30pm–7pm

The library is on Level 1 in MIA’s Education Centre. Turn right at the main Museum entrance, continue through the doors at the end of the wing, and across the covered walkway. We have books in English, Arabic and other languages that are available for use inside the library.

The Collection

The collection consists of specialist books on Islamic art, art reference books, museum collection and exhibition catalogues and monographs, scholarly periodicals on art and related areas including auction house catalogues.

For Children

We have an extensive collection of resources for children, including stories, art history, art activities, culture, history, science and general reference books.

Our engaging programmes and activities, including interactive storytime sessions in both Arabic and English, make a library visit an exciting experience for all members of the family. See the calendar for upcoming events.

We also work with school groups, offering reading activities as well as guided tours to show children how to use a library.

For Students

Our library team is available to help you with your research upon request.

We can assist in constructing bibliographies and conducting research projects. Study guides on areas of Islamic art are also available to take away.

A copier/scanner is provided at no charge. Please ask for assistance in copying materials so that no damage is done.

Free wifi is available in the library. Nine study rooms are available but reservations are required. Scholars wishing to use computer equipment are encouraged to use their own laptops.

It may be permitted to photograph a limited number of pages in a book using a digital camera with no flash. Museum staff may be able to provide photographs on request.
