These calligraphy works include texts from the Qur’an that are less commonly used in calligraphy, along with some Basmalas. Zakariya also included works with texts from a lesser-known treasury of Islamic literature and poetry.

About the Artist

Mohamed Zakariya is an American master Arabic calligrapher who was inspired at a young age by the Arabic script. Zakariya traveled to Turkey in 1984 to join the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCI-CA), where he later received his Ijazet accreditation. This certificate grants permission to write calligraphy under one’s own name. He earned the Ijazet in the Thuluth and Naskh scripts and later in the Taliq script. His pieces are known to be completely done by him from start to finish, including the marbling, illumination, paint making and paper burnishing, showing his capabilities.
